Sjoa & Driva Expeditions - FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, RESPECT & HUMOUR

Thursday, 26 August 2010

I have been asked how we did as a group the three of us, are we still friends? I have been asked how Rob and I deal with being boyfriend / girlfriend on a trip like this?

I believe the topic at stage is how we deal with ourselves under stress. We had some stress full days during the expeditions. New place every day, long portages, getting tired, wet camp gear, setting up for a photo shoot at a major rapid and then miss it because the lens is fogged up, paddling new rapids continuously with some pushing you to your limit.

Safety is always first. A close attention was held on safety in every rapid every day. The stress we experienced was more on a personal level. When stressed i believe each of us did what we needed to do so not to act it out. Sometimes it would be to go sit somewhere by the river, write in the diary, go for a walk, other times to consciously redirect your thoughts or your focus or reflect on your own reactions and ‘land’ them. Maybe at some point later one would address the issue as a topic, and most likely all of us had experienced it., and we could share different perspectives. We had no disagreement or issues surfacing. I think one reason was that we contained ourselves well and kept the focus on our common goal; to be safe and successfully travel the whole length of the rivers to document them and to stay friends.

Thank you.
